SPRING GOLD RUSH DAYS!
Three Day Outing - May 1st, 2nd & 3rd - 2009
The outing was a great success! We had a wonderful bunch of folks who made this event nothing short of spectacular. I would like to thank everyone who attended for making this such a memorable time for all.
This was the largest and most diverse prospecting event that Indiana has ever seen, with folks from nine states and Canada present. There were lots of activities for all, including fishing, mushroom hunting, panning contests, kids games and of course gold prospecting! I hope that we can have another one this summer.
Here is a small sampling of some of the gold recovered at the outing, it ranged from tiny colors all the way up to substantial pickers. Most folks found the finer gold in the gravel bars, but at least one attendee recovered more than $100 worth of gold in three days time. Several others took home some very chunky pickers. At least two “hot spots” were identified and a hard clay bottom was discovered that underlies a large stretch of the creek. Pickers in the vile were recovered with a small 2” dredge around the boulders and the gold in the pans was taken in a single day with a four inch dredge off of the hard clay layer. Gold in black pan was taken from the gravel pile with a highbanker by the Canadians
Some prospectors took to the woods to find their golden treasures and pounds of morels were there for the picking. Greg Wampler and Mike Cook (center) were among those who donated their finds for a shroom deep fry on Friday night.

Junior speed panning winners, Gold Medal winner was Lauren (center) with a time of 18.40, Silver Medal winner was Nicole (right) with a time of 22.50 and the Bronze Medal went to Derek (left) with 27.85 seconds.
